Privacy Policy

We believe your travel memories are yours alone. Here is exactly what we do — and do not — collect.

Effective Date: June 1, 2026  ·  Last updated: June 1, 2026

1. Introduction

RoamFolio ("the App," "we," "us," "our") is a personal travel diary application for iPhone. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App may access, how it is used, and your rights and choices.

Short version: RoamFolio operates entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your personal data. No account is required to use the App.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

RoamFolio does not collect, receive, or have access to any of the following:

No data entered into RoamFolio is ever transmitted to our servers — because we operate no servers that receive your data.

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

All content you create in the App — including trips, journeys, stops, notes, dates, costs, mood tags, and related metadata — is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data resides in your device's protected app sandbox and is accessible only to the App itself.

This data never leaves your device unless you choose to back it up via iCloud (see Section 7 below).

4. Location Data

The App requests "When In Use" location permission solely to assist with placing stops on the map and to suggest nearby places when you search for origins and destinations. Location permission is optional — you may use the App without granting it.

Location data obtained while the App is in use is:

5. Photos and Camera Roll

RoamFolio requests access to your photo library when you choose to link photos to a stop or trail pin. The App accesses photos using Apple's PhotoKit framework.

Important: RoamFolio does not copy your photos. It stores only a reference identifier (an assetLocalIdentifier) that points to your existing photo in your camera roll. Your photos remain in your camera roll, are not duplicated, and are not transmitted anywhere.

If you delete a photo from your camera roll, it will no longer be accessible from within the App, but no other data is affected.

6. Apple MapKit and Location Search

The App uses Apple's MapKit framework for map display and the MKLocalSearch API for location search. When you search for a place or load the map, standard map tile requests are sent to Apple's servers as part of normal MapKit operation. This is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

We have no visibility into or control over these requests. No information you enter in the App is attached to these Apple API calls beyond what Apple's own SDK sends as part of standard map rendering.

7. iCloud Backup

If iCloud Backup is enabled on your device (via iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup), your App data may be included in your iCloud backup as part of Apple's standard device backup process. This is controlled by you through your device settings and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

RoamFolio does not independently initiate any iCloud sync or data upload.

8. Third-Party Services and SDKs

RoamFolio does not include any third-party SDKs, analytics libraries, advertising networks, crash reporting services, or data brokers. The App uses only Apple's first-party frameworks (SwiftUI, SwiftData, MapKit, PhotoKit, Swift Charts). No third party receives your data.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will address it promptly.

10. Data Retention and Deletion

All App data resides on your device and is under your full control. You may:

Because we do not receive your data, we have no data to delete on our end.

11. Security

All App data is stored within the iOS app sandbox, which is protected by Apple's security model. Data is encrypted at rest if your device has a passcode enabled (standard iOS encryption). We rely on Apple's platform security and do not implement additional server-side security because no data leaves your device.

12. Your Rights

Because all your data stays on your device and we collect none of it, you have complete control at all times. You do not need to make a request to us to access, correct, or delete your data — you can do all of this directly within the App or by uninstalling it.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom and have any questions about data protection rights, please contact us at the address below.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised policy at https://roamfolio.life/privacy and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

14. Contact Us
